Various ashrams and temples in Ahmedabad have organised programmes on Guru Poornima

It is definitely different than 'Teacher's Day', but Guru Poornima too has many takers in the city. The festival, which falls on the full moon day of Ashadha month of Hindu calendar, goes beyond simply greeting your teacher. The festival pays respect to all gurus including spiritual ones.

And it is in the ashrams and temples of spiritual leaders rather than school and college campuses that the festival finds prominence.

All the major spirituals leaders will be offered pooja (worship) on July 25 - Guru Poornima by their followers.

Pramukh Swami, head of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) is based at Bochasan presently. Aksharwatsal Swami, spokesperson of BAPS said, "Pramukh Swami is at Bochasan and every year thousands of devotees from country and abroad come to offer their respect to him on Guru Poornima day."

He said the youth and children wing of BAPS will also presenting cultural programmes on the occasion.

Morari Bapu will be at his hometown in Talgajarda, near Mahuva in Bhavnagar district. Commenting on how they will be celebrating the festival, Jagdishbhai, one of his followers, said, "Bapu doesn't hold any programmes, but thousands of his followers come to Talgajarda on Guru Poornima from across the globe. He will remain present to meet all of them."

Shashtri Swami Harikrishnadasji, mahant swami of the Kalupur Swaminarayan temple, informed, "Acharya Kaushalendraprasad Maharaj is the present head of our temple and a Guru Poojan will be organised for him at the temple after the aarti."

Rameshbhai Oza (Bhaishri) will be present at the Sandipani Vidhyalaya at Porbandar. Talking about their celebration, Bharatbhai, a follower of Bhaishri, said, "We honoured primary school teachers of the villages surrounding Porbandar in course of our 'Guru Vandana' programme. On Guru Poornima day, thousands of devotees will be performing 'Guru Poojan' for Bhaishri."
