Three policemen have been suspended in the district for allegedly beating up a
youth when he failed to show them his car documents at a check post.

Senior superintendent of Singh Ram Singh said assistant sub-inspector Parminder Singh and head constables Rattan Singh and Kulwinder Singh were suspended for allegedly beating up Sobit Chaudhary (19) when he failed to show the documents of his car during checking at a check post near village Khojewal on Kapurthala-Jalandhar road this evening.

He said a departmental inquiry has been ordered and the department has been directed to register a criminal case on the statement of the injured boy.

Chaudhary, the nephew of a councillor Savita Chaudhary, told reporters that he along with his friend Vishal were coming to Kapurthala from Jalandhar in a car and were stopped by a police party at a check-post. On his failure to show the documents of the car as they were lying at home, the police beat him up, he alleged. He alleged the police even snatched his mobile and did not allow him to speak to his family members.

He was brought to the hospital by his father Satinder Singh from the spot.
