Three more deaths in 24 hours, encephalitis toll touches 524

Gorakhpur (UP): Three more children succumbed to deadly encephalitis in BRD Medical College here during since last evening, official sources said here today.

As many as 16 fresh patients having symptoms of encephalitis were admitted to different hospitals of the region during the period, they said.

Additional director Health LP Rawat said that the toll due to different types of brain fever has reached 524 in eastern districts of Uttar Pradesh, since January this year.

He said a total of 2,994 patients suffering from Japanese Encephalitis and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) were admitted this year to BRD Medical College and other hospitals of the region. Of this, 524 died.

Rawat said that 91 patients suffering from encephalitis are undergoing treatment at BRD MCH, while nine are admitted in government hospitals of the adjoining districts.
