Three killed as storm uproots trees and damages houses in Uttar Pradesh

Three persons, including two women, were killed and eight others injured when a storm lashed the district in the wee hours today, uprooting dozens of trees and damaging scores of houses.

A middle-aged couple died in Meja tehsil, while a young woman was killed in Karchhana tehsil, a police spokesperson said.

Besides, eight persons were badly injured in various parts of the district in nature's fury. Normal life was also affected as electricity cables were snapped at a number of places. Traffic was also disrupted in the area, he said. 

Police and local administration officials have reached the affected areas from where injured people have been sent to hospitals and efforts were being made to remove the uprooted trees and ensure resumption of normal life as early as possible, the spokesperson added.

The storm which lasted for nearly 45 minutes was followed by lightning and drizzle, the weather office said.

On May 20, eleven people were killed in a storm.
