Vastrapur police said on Wednesday that they have arrested three men, including a visa agent, for allegedly cheating a mobile phone dealer of Ghatlodia of Rs7lakh. The accused charged this amount as their fees but later provided the dealer and his wife with fake German visas.
The police nabbed Deepal Patel, a resident of Premchand Nagar, Satellite; Akansh Saxena, of West End Park, Thaltej and Amit Banker, of Anand Nagar, Satellite following a complaint by the dealer Chirag Patel. Chirag owns a Virgin Mobile showroom on Judges Bungalow Road.
Chirag stated in his complaint that he, along with his wife Varsha wanted to visit their relatives in Germany. "Deepal, who had earlier provided us with passports, agreed to manage for our visa and air travel etc within 50 days against payment of Rs7 lakh. Accordingly, I paid the amount by December 6, 2010 and went to Lucknow to board a flight to Germany with my wife," Chirag stated in his complaint.
However, the agent could not arrange for the couple's travel and after three days, asked them to return to Ahmedabad. "He told us that he would send us to Germany via Dubai and Paris. But when we landed at Dubai airport on December12, 2010, emigration officials there declared our visa fake and deported us to India," Chirag, further said.
After returning from Dubai, Chirag contacted Deepal, who revealed that as a matter of fact, Akansh had obtained visa for them. The dealer tried to settle the matter privately but his efforts went in vain and following it he filed the police complaint on Tuesday.
Vastrapur police inspector YR Gamit said that the passports that Deepal had provided to the couple were also found to be fake. "During investigations, we have come to know that the passports were made in Chennai," Gamit added. Police have registered a case of cheating and are investigating the matter.
