Three bailed RIL workers arrested again to prevent offences

On day 3, workers claim of shutdown, company says unit is operational.

The three key members of Reliance Employees' Union were arrested again on Saturday. The workers at company's Naroda unit have been on strike since Thursday, demanding higher wages.

The three employees of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), who were arrested on Friday and got bail on Saturday morning, were arrested again by noon under section 151 of Crpc. Under section 151, a person can be arrested to prevent commission of cognizable offences.

The three members who were arrested include Hasmukh Patel, president of Reliance Employees' Union, Lalsinh Bhaati, vice president and member of the union, Ambalal Parmar. The accused -Parmar (36), Patel (40) and Bhaati (36) - are employees of the RIL. They have been accused of instigating people and illegally staging strike at the gate of the RIL, located in Naroda GIDC.

According to the union, 7,500 workers are on strike since Thursday and the production at the textile unit of RIL at Naroda is at standstill. "We have decided not to resume until our demands are fulfilled. We want at least 60% hike in wages from our present salary of Rs6,000 per month," said Subhash Pandya, a union member.

The strike was triggered by a ban on the usage of mobile phone and later turned into a demand for hike in wages, claimed company. RIL has struck to the same statement, it issued on Thursday. Despite strike, company claims that operations are continuing peacefully at the plant.

According to cops, the trios were arrested again under section 151. "Under this section, the accused -Parmar, Patel and Bhaati have been arrested again," said an official of Naroda
Police Station.
