Hours after Anna Hazare broke his fast for a strong and effective Lokpal Bill, thousands of supporters of the veteran social activist gathered at the India Gate on Sunday evening to celebrate his victory.

Team Anna has called for "grand celebrations" at India Gate on Sunday evening to celebrate the "people's victory" as Anna Hazare broke his 12-day fast after Parliament broadly agreed to meet three key demands of his civil society group to battle corruption.

"We appeal to all the people present here to come to India Gate in the evening where we will celebrate our republic," Hazare's close confidant Arvind Kejriwal told the cheering crowds at Ramlila Maidan.

"The way people bravely took a step by supporting Anna in his protest, so this is people's victory. Earlier supporters were only from cities but later on supporters start pouring in from small villages. The children whom you can see are all from small village Rajaulda near Palwal city," said Charanjeet Singh, a supporter.

"Government has failed since beginning only and I am glad that whole nation has come together; they have been united now. It is after the perusal of this whole nation, now the government has realised that yes, these three points are valid and they need to come under the purview of Lokpal (Ombudsman). So I am really happy for Anna's movement," added another supporter Yogita Sharma.

Meanwhile, another Hazare supporter Sameer Gupta described the present situation to be a very historical moment.

"This is a very historical moment as there is a need to erase corruption from the roots. The most important need is of the discipline that we should neither give bribe nor take bribe. If we will keep patience in us and fight against it then the corruption will be finally evacuate," said Gupta.

"With the mere introduction of the bill, corruption will not finish, everybody will have to keep patience and have to work with honesty and hard work," he added.

After securing Parliament's nod on key elements of Jan Lokpal Bill, Hazare broke his over 288 hour-long fast declaring that electoral reforms will be next on his agenda.

Hazare broke his fast at 10.20 a.m. by taking coconut water mixed with honey offered by two little girls.

The 74-year-old social activist was driven straight to Medanta Medicity run by India's top cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan, who was attending to him along with his team during his entire period of fast. He will stay in the hospital for two to three days.

The latest developments came after both the houses of Parliament on Saturday agreed in principle with Hazare's three key demands.

Both houses of Parliament adopted a resolution on the sense of house accepting key demands of Hazare on citizen charter, lower bureaucracy to be under the ambit of Lokpal and establishment of state Lok Ayuktas and power of lokpal to penalise grievance redressal mechanism violators.
