The Panchal household in Bopal is busy these days. They have 11 newborns to look after. No, they haven't opened a maternity ward, but it's their two-and-a-half-year-old pet Rohnee, a labrador, who gave birth to the healthy litter.

When owner Dipak Panchal had taken the dog to veterinary doctor, Truptesh Patel, for check up, he was told the elegant Rohnee will give birth to a minimum of seven puppies. Even for a Labrador, known to give birth to five to six pups at a time, this information came as a shocker.  "However, when our lab started developing more teats than the regular numbers (normally a bitch has eight teats out of which six are functional), I was sure that the vets predictions were going to be true. Rohnee has 10 teats," says Panchal.
And true to Patel's words, Rohnee gave birth to 12 pups 23 days ago. However, one died soon after it was born. The entire family takes utmost care of their pet. "Generally labradors can conceive after they are a year old. However, we did not allow Rohnee to mate till she was two. We wanted her to be fully grown and be physically fit," said Panchal, adding that they are happy that till date their pampered pooch has never fallen sick, almost automatically reaching out to touch wood as he made the comment!

But, what is most alluring about the dog is her penchant for tidiness. Rohnee is finicky when it comes being clean and loves discipline. And if cleanliness is her virtue, her dental hygiene takes the cake! "A unique thing about is Rohnee is that I make her brush her teeth everyday, and she lets me brush her teeth without any hassles," claims Resham, Panchal's daughter.

Rohnee also has her share of whims and fancies. She loves to travel in style and will only occupy the front seat when out for long drives. And she won't welcome anybody else in her seat. She likes to be handfed. "I have to take each morsel in my hand and feed her. She drinks milk and water too only when you are sitting and talking to her. Or else she will go hungry," said Kala, a doting mom.

Meanwhile, the 7 female and 4 male puppies born to Rohnee will not be sold by the Panchals. "We have planned to gift them to canine lovers. We already have a waiting list of 22 people asking for them. But, before gifting them away we will ensure that the family would be able to afford to take care of the dog," says a fiercely protective Dipak.
