TET — a smooth sailing for most aspiring teachers in Ahmedabad

Teachers Eligibility Test ewas being held for the first time in Gujarat. Most of the candidates, who appeared for the test on Sunday, said it was an easy one.

The much-awaited Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET) conducted on Sunday proved to be an easy sailing for most of the candidates.

This is the first time that such an examination was held for recruitment of teachers in primary section.

TET had an exceptionally good attendance. A total of 1,10,882 candidates from all over the state had registered for the examination, of which only 1.5% missed the test. Almost all of the 6,000 applicants from Ahmedabad appeared for the test with all of them opting for language section. Sixteen centres in Ahmedabad conducted the test.

The test was divided into two parts - part one for Class I-V and part two for Class VI-VIII. Candidates could opt for either of the parts or both of them. Further, a hopeful had to choose between languages and mathematics in these sections. Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) system was used in the test. The TET score obtained will be valid for five years.

Many candidates agreed that English was the simplest section. Sabiha Shaikh, one of the candidates said, “Though I studied only one week before the examination, I found the paper rather easy. I aspire to become an English teacher.”

Speaking to DNA, FP Halani, Chairman of State Examination Board, said that no cases of cheating was reported from the state as proper security was arranged at all centres.
