Tempo driver beaten to death in Uttar Pradesh

A tempo driver was allegedly beaten to death at Barooki village near Bijnor by the relatives of a woman passenger who fell from the vehicle and sustained injuries, the police said today.

A tempo driver was allegedly beaten to death at Barooki village near Bijnor by the relatives of a woman passenger who fell from the vehicle and sustained injuries, the police said today.

Kiran and her husband, residents of Shahpur Saidu village, were travelling along with other passengers in the three-wheeler tempo being driven by Sanjeev Thakur, 22, when its tyre got burst and the vehicle turned turtle near here, they said.

Kiran fell from the tempo and was injured, after which the driver took her to a doctor nearby and got her treated.

However, on learning about the incident, her family members reached the site and beat up the driver, who died on the spot.

This triggered protests by villagers and other tempo drivers who gathered at the site and blocked the road.

Senior police officers, including SP Raj Kumar and ASP (Rural) RK Rajvanshi, reached the site with police force and pacified the agitated villagers.

The deceased's father has lodged a complaint with police against four persons out of whom one has been arrested and search is on for the other accused, the police said.
