Teenager shot dead over trivial issue

A teenaged boy was shot dead by four people at Khand Bazaar in Rani Talao here late on Tuesday night. Mohammad Nabi Sheikh, 17, had reportedly had a tiff with one of the four accused about a month back. The police arrested two of the accused and were looking for the other two.

Sheikh, a resident of Navroj Apartment, Sodagarwad, used to work as a helper in an agarbatti shop. When Shiekh was returning home from work on a bicycle late on Tuesday night, the four intercepted him at Khand Bazaar in Rani Talao and shot him from a country-made weapon on his back.

Bleeding profusely, Sheikh himself managed to reach the nearby Sufi Hospital. He even informed his family members from the hospital. But the doctors at the hospital refused to provide treatment.
His family members managed an ambulance to shift Sheikh to Mission Hospital. But the boy died on the way. Family members informed the police, who examined the crime scene and collected evidences.

The accused were identified as Umar Patel, Yusuf Memon, Appu Lala and Aslam, all residents of Sabri Nagar. According to police, Umar had teased Subrabanu, wife of Shahnawaz, a month back.

Shahnawaz is Sheikh's cousin. For this, Umar had a quarrel with  Shahnawaz and Sheikh. Even a week back, Umar tried to meet Shahnawaz but he was prevented by Shiekh from doing so.

GH Sonwane, PSI of Chowk Bazaar police station, said the boy was shot at with a  country-made pistol. On Wednesday evening, Chowk Bazaar police arrested two of the accused - Umar Patel and Yusuf Memon - from Bhari-Mata road.

Inspector BL Vavaiya said that the duo had confessed to the crime. “We have recovered the weapon from them. Appu Lala and Aslam will be arrested soon.”
