Teenager killed, 2 injured as police fired at violent mob in Uttar Pradesh

A teenager was killed and two others were injured today after police allegedly fired at a mob, which went on a rampage to protest the murder of a sadhu in Rampur Karkhana area, officials said in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh.

"Manoj Pal, 17, a resident of Baraipur village, was killed in a clash between police and the villagers, who were protesting against the murder of the sadhu by some unidentified persons," acting district magistrate Vuijay Pratap said.

Two others were also injured in the clash, he said.

A 60-year-old sadhu, who used to live in a hut near Patanwa bridge, was immolated by some unidentified persons late last night.

Condemning the incident, the villagers today staged a protest and went on a rampage.

The protest turned violent when police resorted to lathicharge in a bid to control the situation, officials said.
