It was back to schools for teachers and headmasters of Gujarat. After taking up teaching as a career option, it was probably for the first time that they sat for an examination as they appeared for the Teachers and Headmasters Aptitude Test (TAT) on Friday.

Teachers who appeared for the 150 marks exams felt that the options given in the Optical Marking Recognition system were confusing even as Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board officials claim that the paper couldn't have been easier.

On Friday, around 9107 teachers and headmasters appeared for the TAT in 43 centres in five major cities of Gujarat. The cities include Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Surat and Vadodara. An official communiqué from the GSHEB says that in the subject knowledge test around 9107 and in general knowledge test around 9092 teachers appeared for the test. There were around 10,273 teachers and headmasters registered for the TAT.

Vice-chairman of the GSHEB HK Patel told DNA that except for one incident of confusion in seating arrangements in one of the centres at Vadodara, the TAT went off smoothly. "In Vadodara, it seems by mistake, one candidate sat on someone else's seat. It was not intentional and the matter was solved immediately," said Patel.

He said he personally went to some of the centres to oversee arrangements. When DNA spoke to one of the teachers, she said that the paper was confusing in some aspects and in some questions all options seemed wrong. "We hope that the board will consider these mistakes," said the teacher. Chairman of the GSHEB RR Varsani said that the paper was very interesting and it couldn't be more clear and simpler than this.
