Tamil party holds protests against Sri Lankan president in Mumbai

A Tamil political party today held demonstration  at central Mumbai against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa protesting against killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen in the mid-sea allegedly by its navy.

Members of Naam Tamilar Party torched and tore the photos of Rajapaksa at Dharavi.

"A number of fishermen were killed in the mid-sea by Sri Lankan navy. We should not tolerate such acts. Indian government is also not taking the matter seriously. In order to lodge our protest, we burnt the photos of Rajapaksa," C Rajendran, general secretary (Maharashtra), Naam Tamilar Party whose head office is in Chennai, said.

Nearly 500 members of the Tamil community and their party activists would stage demonstration tomorrow as well in the city, he added.

Rajapaksa will land here tomorrow morning to watch the grand finale of cricket's biggest extravaganza between Indian and Sri Lanka at the Wankhede stadium.
