Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi today said he shared the concerns of rights groups on 'increasing number' of police encounters in the state.

"I share their concerns," Karunanidhi, who holds the Home portfolio, said in response to reporters queries on the 'increasing number' of police encounters in the state.

Asked if there would be any action against police officials, he said he had "nothing to comment on that."
   
Within the span of a week, four history-sheeters wanted in connection with cases of murder, extortion and rape were gunned down in Chennai and Madurai, prompting some rights groups to express concerns.
   
Alleged rowdies 'Dindigul' Pandi and Velu were killed in a 'police encounter' here on February eight while two other notorious rowdies, Kalamandaiyan and Kaviarasu, were gunned down by the cops in Madurai yesteray.

Karunanidhi declined to react to a question on AIADMK MPs meeting prime minister Manmohan Singh and Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar demanding increase in the mimimum support price for sugarcane.
 
On the progress of the New Assembly complex, he said it was proceeding well and added Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate it on March 13 as scheduled.
