The opposition BJP on Friday demanded a stringent act on the lines of POTA or TADA to combat terrorism. In the wake of the serial blasts, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan convened an all-party meeting at Sahyadri guest house on Friday evening. He urged all parties to join hands with the government to tackle the post-blast crisis.

Leader of opposition Eknath Khadse alleged that the opposition parties were not taken into confidence even in the time of crisis. He expected the government to come clear on the measure and its plan of action in the wake of the attacks.

“We will keep the party politics at bay in the time of crisis but the government also should understand that people in the state have lost their faith in it. There was no fear in the minds of the perpetrators of terror as there is no stringent punishment for such barbarian attacks. We have demanded a stringent act in the country and have assured to support to the government in its formation,” Khadse said.

The opposition demanded the government to assure the people of the state that their would no further terror attack in the state. “The government totally failed on intelligence gathering front and the people are not in mood to hear any excuses,” he said.

“The  leaders from the ruling Congress are busy in blame game by issuing unreasonable statements, but they should understand the seriousness of the situation,” he added.

MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar criticised the government for not implementing the recommendations of an all-party committee formed a year and half ago. “Only 25% of the recommendations were implemented by the state government. Had the recommendations were taken seriously, the state would have been in a better position in terms of combating terror,” he said.

At the beginning of the meet, home minister narrated the sequence of the blasts and status of the investigation. He apprised the opposition parties with the measures undertaken to upgrade the police department post 26/11. The Shiv Sena slammed the state government for poor coastal security measures.
