The CBI on Monday sought time to reply to the bail application of suspended police officer NK Amin, an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case. After this, special CBI judge Jyotsna Yagnik adjourned the hearing on the bail plea to April 26.

In his bail application, Amin has accused the then investigating officers of the case, GB Padheriya and IPS officer Geetha Johri, of falsely implicating him in the case.

He has based his bail plea on evidence reportedly collected by the state CID (crime) when it was investigating the Sohrabuddin case, but which it had not included in the charge-sheet filed by it.

Amin has stated in his application that though he was ACP (crime branch) when the Sohrabuddin encounter took place, he was not a member of the police team involved in the incident.

He has further stated that he had requested the officials of CID (crime) to collect documents showing his presence in the City sessions court and at his office when the alleged crime was committed on November 28, 2005 and on November 29, 2005.

He has also stated that officials of CID crime had also taken the statements of Amin's official driver, Bhala Bharwad. Even his movement in the above-mentioned period has been verified by the recorded statements of other witnesses, he has said.
