Suspected sunstroke deaths climbs to nine in Orissa

With the mercury crossing the 40 degrees Celsius mark in several parts of Orissa, the death toll due to suspected sunstroke increased to nine today, officials said.
    
Meanwhile, the Met office forecast that the heat wave would prevail for next 24 hours.
    
The man who died due to suspected sunstroke has been identified as Dhaneshwar Biswa (66) died, the officials said, adding Biswas died at Ayur village in Jagatsinghpur district today.
    
While the western region town Sambalpur recorded the highest temperature of 43.2 degree C, Titlagarh with 43 degrees and Balangir (42.5) were equally hot.
    
The towns with above 40 degrees C were: Jharsuguda (41.6), Malkangiri (41.5), Sundargarh (41), Bhawanipatna (41.5), Baripada (40.8), Angul (40.7) and Phulbani (40), the Met department said.
    
The state capital, however, had little respite as the mercury level declined to 36.9 degrees C from 38.5 degree C yesterday.
    
Though the state government has so far confirmed only two deaths due to sunstroke during this summer, it has received cases of seven more such deaths.
