A documentary on surrogate mothers in Anand made by the reputed National Geographic Channel has won an award at the Asian Television Awards - 2010 on Thursday. The documentary —'Womb of World' — bagged the Best Social Awareness programme prize at a function in Singapore.
The one-hour long documentary on surrogate mothers in Anand shows how life changes for both — the surrogate mothers from economically weaker sections of society and childless couples across the world who come to Gujarat's 'milk capital' to get their life's bundles of joys.
Dr Nayna Patel, IVF expert in Anand, said the channel's units shot in Anand for 64 days over a period of three years while making the documentary. "The documentary shows how life for a widow, a woman from the slums of Anand, prospers after she gets financial help from childless couples," said Dr Patel.
