Former Commonwealth Games (CWG) organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi's aide Shekhar M Deorukhkar, arrested for his alleged role in a corruption case in holding the sporting mega event, will have to continue cooling his heels in Tihar Jail with a court extending today his judicial custody till March 19.

Special judge OP Saini extended Deorukhkar's Tihar jail stay along with that of his accomplice Binu Nanu, the managing director of Meroform India Pvt Ltd and GL Events Pvt Ltd.

Saini extended the judicial custody of the duo on a CBI plea as the probe in this case is still in its preliminary stage.

"Both the accused are remanded to judicial custody till March 19," the judge said.

The court dismissed the bail plea of Deorukhkar saying there are "incriminating" evidence against him which establishes that he was a part of the conspiracy.

"In view of the material on record, it cannot be said that there is no incriminating evidence on record against Deorukhkar or that he was not a part of the conspiracy to obtain bribe from the overlays suppliers," the court said.

It also took into account the statement of a witness in this case who had deposed that he had paid Rs10 lakhs to Deorukhkar as bribe.

"Statement of a witness is on record that he had paid bribe to various persons on the asking of co-accused Binu Nanu. The witness further stated that he had paid Rs10 lakh in cash to Deorukhkar on the asking of Nanu," the judge noted.
