The rapist Dhanraj alias Raju Patil, 25, a resident of Kaushal nagar in Godadara and a broker at APMC, fled from home in February this year with Meena (name changed), 15, his neighbour.
In a shocking incident, a man was arrested for abducting and raping a teenage girl, his so-called sister. The two lived together for more than four months, during which, the girl became pregnant. The victim has been handed over to her family members, while a complaint has been lodged against the accused.
The rapist Dhanraj alias Raju Patil, 25, a resident of Kaushal nagar in Godadara and a broker at APMC, fled from home in February this year with Meena (name changed), 15, his neighbour. The two stayed in Vyara, Shirdi and Ahmedabad, and later rented a house at Salangpur village in Bhavnagar district. As Patil changed his cellphone number, the police failed to trace them.
"A few days back, Meena called her family members from a cellphone purchased by Patil, and informed them that she will never return. Her family members lodged a complaint and based on the location of the cellphone, we arrested Patil and released the girl," said police officer RR Bhambhala, while speaking to mediapersons.
He added that Meena ended up pregnant following her relationship with Patil. To save her life, Patil made her undergo an abortion at a local clinic at Salangpur.
On being brought to Surat, Meena expressed a desire to stay with her family, and was handed over to them.
Interestingly, Meena and Patil knew each other since the last six years, and she used to treat Patil as her brother. During Rakshabandhan, she used to tie a rakhi on Patil's hand every year.
Family sources said that a year back though, Meena, impressed with Patil, fell in love with him. The latter did not object to this, and the two used to roam together for hours, keeping family members in dark. Surprisingly, Patil is married and has a one-year old child.
The Limbayat police have registered a case of abduction and rape against Patil.
Sources said that Patil has confessed his crime.
