The large Saurashtrian community settled in Surat now will soon be able to fly to Bhavnagar and Rajkot, as Guwahati-based Luan Airways is all set to launch Surat-Bhavnagar-Rajkot-Delhi flight from August 15.

This was announced by Ashok Verma, Surat Airport Controller on Wednesday. “If all goes well, Luan Airways, a non scheduled operator, will start Surat-Bhavnagar-Rajkot-Delhi flight from August 15 onwards.  This will be in addition to Indian’s existing Surat-Delhi-Surat daily flight,” Verma said.

According to Verma, a 50-seater aircraft will be used for the flight. The flight will take-off from Surat at 7.00 am and land at Delhi at 10 am via Bhavnagar and Rajkot. The same flight will leave from Delhi at 6.30 in the evening and reach Surat at 9.00 pm.

The aircraft will remain parked at Surat airport during night. Officials said that night landing facility has already been installed at Surat airport, which will enable landing of the aircraft at Surat even
after sunset.

“Some other proposals for launching flights connecting Surat with other cities are also in the pipeline, and we expect to see more flights from the city in the near future,” Verma said.

Welcoming the move, Surat Diamond Association president, CP Vanani said the flight will lead to enhanced trade between Bhavnagar & Rajkot with Surat.
