Surat police accomplished a technological feat by connecting all its police stations and police chowkies in the city, through a video-conferencing network. Through the system, police officials can hold discussions, interrogate accused and discuss policies. The system has been developed with help of sponsors and donors.

Apart from installing CCTV cameras in all its 26 police stations and police chowkies, Surat police have interconnected them through this videoconference facility making it the first city in India, to be equipped with such a facility.

According to Sanjay Srivastav, joint CP of Surat police, the system will be helpful in dealing with routine work, from the office itself. Police officials won’t have to go to the commissioner’s office for discussions and approvals except for extraordinary essential matters.

“It will be helpful to everybody including the citizens and cops. Any complainant who wants to talk to a higher police official can easily contact him from any police station, through video conferencing.

Accused can be interrogated though this facility” Srivastav added. The Satva Shri Dineshbhai Mathurbhai Patel Charitable Trust has developed the project under PPP model  by incurring an expenditure of Rs10 lakh.
