The much-awaited chargesheet in the shocking gangrape case was filed by crime branch police before the chief court late on Friday evening, officials said.

According to officials, the chargesheet was filed by crime branch PI and investigating officer AK Kureshi before Chief Court judge IR Raval around 6.00 pm, just minutes before the court’s closing time. The chargesheet was filed exactly 42 days or six weeks after the heinous crime shocked Surat.

“We have submitted the chargesheet in the gangrape case before the court on Friday,” Surat police commissioner Shivanand Jha said.

DCP (crime) Subhash Trivedi, who is monitoring the whole case, said: “We submitted a 380-page chargesheet before the court today. The chargesheet contains all evidences against the three accused - Shahid Saiyed, Tariq Saiyed and Abu Bacher - that we have collected during the investigations.”

The charges have been leveled against the trio under sections 363, 366, 376(2), 377, 170, 292, 294, 506, 120B, 114 and others of IPC, said officials.

“The gangrape was pre-planned and the accused had moved the whole night in their car in search of a victim. They spotted the girl and her friend on Ring Road at 5.30 am and abducted them before committing gangrape on her and forcing her to perform oral sex on them,” according to the chargesheet.

“The three accused shot the crime on their phones. They also took the victim girl and her friend’s phone numbers and warned them against speaking about the incident to anybody. They also threatened to make public the video recording of the rape if they disclosed the matter to anyone.”

While refusing to disclose contents of the chargesheet, Trivedi reiterated that they have enough evidence to prove the guilt of the accused persons in court. The filing of chargesheet paves the way for trial in the sensational case and framing of charges against the three accused.

Officials remained tightlipped about contents of the chargesheet, but sources said police have built their case mainly on three evidences. These include video recordings of the gang-rape recovered from the trio’s mobile phones, reports of the accused person’s DNA tests and results of their narco analysis tests.

“The reports of blood, hair, saliva, semen and other scientific & biological tests on the accused were positive. The victim and eyewitness also identified the accused during the identification parade. The outcome of voice spectrographic analysis of the video clipping of the gangrape was also positive,” sources said further.

The chargesheet also contains reports of forensic evidences collected by the police during investigations. Sources said the chargesheet also cites 70 witnesses, whose statements have been recorded.

The victim girl’s family members said they are glad that the chargesheet has been filed against the accused. “We are hoping that there will be a fast trial in the case, and justice will be delivered at the earliest,” a close relative of the victim, said.

The heinous crime took place in the wee hours of June 12 when the trio abducted the school girl in a car and gangraped her.
