Eight to ten robbers abducted an angadia pedi worker from a luxury bus during the wee hours of Tuesday morning and looted diamonds worth Rs50 lakh from him.

The abductors took the angadia employee in their jeep and later, threw him out of the moving vehicle. Prahlad Patel, 55, a resident of Tukal village in Mehsana, is employed as a delivery man at Gujarat Angadia Pedi, located at Bhavanivad in Surat.

Patel had been delivering cash and diamonds between Surat and Amreli for the last five years. On Monday night, he got on a luxury bus (GJ-5-Z-5005) of Ramdev Travels from Amreli for Surat.

He was accompanied by another angadia employee Rakesh Darbar, also a resident of Mehsana.

Patel was to deliver diamonds at the Gujarat Angadia office in Surat.

When the bus reached near Navi Pardi village in Kamrej taluka of Surat district early Tuesday morning, eight to ten people in a jeep intercepted it.

The looters identified themselves as cops and inquired about Patel. They accused him of carrying illegal material and then made him get down from the bus.

He was then taken in the jeep where he was assaulted with a knife.

They later took away 150 packets of diamonds worth Rs50 lakh hidden inside his trousers. He was then thrown out of the jeep at a secluded place near Kamrej.

An injured Patel then reached a hotel where the owner rushed him to a hospital. The police was also informed.

"The abductors were in the 20 to 35 year age group and were fluent in Gujarati. They knew I was traveling in the bus with diamonds," Patel said, while undergoing treatment at the hospital. His condition was reported to be stable.

Police rushed to the spot and searched the entire crime scene. They also interrogated the driver of the bus. "At present, we don't have any concrete information about the looters but investigation is on. We have formed various teams to crack the case," BM Desai, inspector of LCB (Surat district), said.

Kamrej police has registered a case in the incident and is investigating the matter along with LCB.
