Within 48 hours of the abduction of the deputy mamlatdar's daughter, Surat police cracked the case and arrested four youth from Ankleshwar, late on Wednesday night. Coincidentally, one of the accused had befriended the victim on Facebook some time back. Cops stated that the motive was to earn a quick buck.
Mansi Gandhi, 17, had gone missing on Tuesday evening.

When Mansi, who had gone for tuitions, did not return till late in the night, family members contacted police, who immediately launched a manhunt. After about 36 hours, cops freed Mansi from a house in Amboli village near Ankleshwar. Preliminary reports indicate that the girl was unharmed.

According to police, Mansi was found locked in a room, with hands and legs tied with rope. Cops arrested the four accused from the house and seized weapons and other objects used in the abduction. They have also seized an Indica car (GJ-6-X-407) used by the kidnappers.

Those arrested were identified as Nikunj Parekh, 20, his brother Niraj Parekh, 23, Azadali Ansari, 26, all residents of Gorva near Vadodara, and Rikenkumar Makwana, 20, a resident of Saraswati Park Society in Ankleshwar, from where the accused were nabbed. Cops said that Nikunj had planned the kidnapping and took help of the others to execute the plan.

“Nikunj and Mansi met each other on Facebook, more than four months back, and would chat often. It seems Nikunj decided to abduct Mansi and demand ransom after learning about her family background,” PR Desai, inspector of Adajan police station, said.
Police sources said that Nikunj had called Mansi to meet him near Pal Patia at Surat-Hazira road on Tuesday evening. While they were talking, Nikunj's friends came there, as per plan, and threatened her with sharp weapons and forced her to sit in their car. Frightened, Mansi went with them to Kamrej and then to Ankleshwar.

“It was done to earn some quick money. However, the abductors were arrested before they could lay their hands on the ransom of Rs25 lakh,” Desai added.

Sources said that Nikunj, an electrical engineer, works in Indian Oil Corporation. Niraj is engaged in business with Ansari, while Makwana is unemployed. Adajan police have registered a case against the four and are investigating the matter.
