Supporters will court arrest if Lokpal bill is not passed: Anna

Anna said that protests would be carried outside residences of lawmakers who object to the Bill.

Veteran social activist Anna Hazare has warned of mass protests and voluntary filling up of jails by Lokpal Bill activists if the law is not passed during the ongoing session of Parliament.
 
Addressing mediapersons here, Hazare said that protests would be carried outside residences of lawmakers who object to the Bill.
 
"We would carry out sit in protests outside the houses of the lawmakers who object the law in the Parliament. Activists in large numbers would carry out these demonstrations and will ask the police to arrest or else we will keep sitting. The entire country's public who are associated with this movement and support this cause would start courting their arrests and filling up jails," he added.
 
He further hoped that an effective version of the Bill is passed soon and informed about his team's preparations in case the bill sees receives a thumbs up of the Parliament.
 
"If a strong Lokpal is passed by the Parliament the on December 27, then we would conduct an event to welcome the move at Ramlila grounds. We would try and present a rose to chief of the government," said Hazare.
 
The Lokpal Bill is seen as a weapon to root out corruption and nepotism from the government machinery and in public life.
 
The proposed Bill envisages the setting up of a national anti-corruption watchdog to check financial mismanagement and corrupt practices   in the Government and  civic institutions of India.
