Sunny morning for Delhiites

The temperature plunged below normal overnight bringing in a cold morning for Delhi today but a bright sunshine ensured the weather turned out to be pleasant as the day progressed.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.0 degrees Celsius which is two degrees below normal and a degree down against yesterday's minimum of 7.0.

A slight mist was also seen over the capital in the early hours of the morning.

The maximum temperature yesterday had dropped down to 18.6 degrees Celsius which is three points below normal as low-velocity winds swept the city.

The weather department has predicted that a misty morning will be followed by a mainly clear sky and a maximum temperature of around 22 degrees Celsius tomorrow. The minimum is also likely to climb tomorrow and weather officials said it could be around 9.0 degrees.

According to MeT statistics, the record for the minimum temperature in January is -0.6 deg C recorded on 16th of the month in 1935.

In the last decade, only last year the minimum did not drop below five deg C. In 2006, the minimum dropped to 0.2 deg C on January 8, while two years later, the lowest minimum was 1.9 deg C on 2nd of the month.
