After a successful polio campaign by Amitabh Bachchan, Indian Medical Association has now roped in cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar as the brand ambassador for their 'Save The Girl Child' campaign.

"We have roped in Gavaskar and he will be our brand ambassador," DR Rai, Honary Secretary General of IMA, told reporters here.

The move comes after politicians and activists raised their voices against foetuses found in drains and low sex ratio in many states of the country.

"The decision has been taken to create an awareness among people through his popularity and respect in the country. 'Save The Girl Child' is a campaign, which will start in coming months," Rai said.

"Women go for ultrasounds and abort if the foetus turns out to be female, government is taking strong action on doctors involved in such practices, but I think there is strong need to punish those families who come forward for female foeticide," he said.
