Summer has hit us with a vengeance and temperatures have again soared to the hard-to-bear range of 40 degree Celsius to 42 degree Celsius in the state. The maximum temperature in the city was 42.5 °C and minimum 24.2 °C, on Monday. The weather was mainly sunny in all districts of Gujarat.

The heat wave that had struck the state last week - for the second time this season - however, subsided on Monday. But Ahmedabad remained the hottest city in the state at 42.5, while the temperatures remained a few degrees lower at various places  including Deesa, Rajkot, Surat, Vadodara and Gandhinagar.

With the rise in the temperatures across the state, there is also a rise in the number of season specific diseases in the city. The cases of jaundice, dysentery, migraine and  mouth ulcers are on the rise due to rising heat.

Dr P Vatchhrajani, vice-president of the Ahmedabad Medical Association (AMA) said, "There is an increase of about 25% in cases of jaundice, dysentery and various types of mouth ulcers in the city within the last few days. These cases are on the rise due to the heat. People tend to drink lots of water irrespective of the quality of water. This leads to diseases such as jaundice, fever and dysentery. Cases of mouth ulcers are also up because people lose appetite due to rising heat and that results in vitamin deficiencies, leading to severe mouth ulcers."

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data recorded that Monday's maximum temperature in Vadodara was 41.3 degree Celsius and its minimum 25.6. In Rajkot it touched 42.0 degree Celsius, while the minimum there was  24.8 degree Celsius.

In Surat the max reached 41.2 degree Celsius and minimum 23.4. In Deesa it was 41.2 degree Celsius and 23.7 respectively and in Gandhinagar, the max temperature was 42.4 degree Celsius and minimum 23.5 degree Celsius.
