Lord Krishna's Dwarka is undergoing a sea change. The Lord's abode will never be the same next Janmastami as the state government has lined up a slew of development works to give the temple town a completely new look. When you visit the place to celebrate the Lord's birthday next August, you will find a new Dwarka Temple campus ready to welcome devotees. Not only that, along with the 'darshan' of Krishna, people will also get a chance to walk to a nearby island Panch Kui, from where devotees can enjoy the panoramic view of the sea.

The state government will develop this inaccessible island by linking it to Gomti Ghat and the main temple area by a Laxman Jhula type hanging bridge which will be named 'Sudama Setu'.

"The design of the bridge and the development plan will be finalised soon. The idea is to develop the island in the most eco-friendly way with least number of permanent structures," said a top government official.

When contacted, state tourism minister Jaynarayan Vyas said, "Dwarka will undergo total makeover and soon it will be able to attract around one crore tourists every year. The revamped Dwarka temple campus will be opened for devotees this Janmastami."

To attract tourists round the year, the government has decided to develop the nearby island which is currently not accessible to tourists. "We will build a hanging bridge to connect the temple and the island," Vyas said. The island has a small temple and Panch Kui (five sweet water wells which are believed to be associated with five Pandavas). Vyas said the island will have facilities for meditation and yoga, besides recreation and picnic spots.

The 'Dwarkadhis Island' is likely to attract lot of tourists as it will be the first of its kind, providing a great view of the Arabian Sea.
