In yet another case of corporal punishment, a teacher at a school in Bapunagar allegedly beat up an 11-year-old student, Ravi Desai, and left him with a fractured hand. The incident occurred when Kamlesh Patel, a teacher at Vidyanagar School, got furious on a complaint that Ravi sprinkled incense stick powder on the shirt of a student.

According to the police complaint filed at the Bapunagar police station, Ravi and another student felt some uncomfortable odour in the class. To get rid of it, a student sitting next to Ravi sprinkled some incense stick powder in the air but it accidentally fell on a student sitting on the front bench.

“When the student complained to the teacher, he gave Ravi's name. Angry at this, the teacher beat up Ravi and banged his hand against the bench. This left Ravi with a fractured hand.
Apart from this, he also hit Ravi with his hand which had a metal bracelet, leaving the victim with rashes and a swollen back,” said Bapunagar police inspector RD Rathva.

Ravi's father, Karansinh Desai, told DNA that Ravi rushed home after the incident. “Initially, we did not pay attention to his complaint but when he showed his arm and the back, we were shocked and angry and immediately went to the school to meet principal and teacher, but the teacher was not there,” he said

When DNA spoke to school trustee Ramesh Prajapati, he said that as per his knowledge, the teacher had only slapped the kid.
“However, we will look into the details and if the teacher is at fault, we will take action against him,” he said.

Till Friday evening, the teacher had not been arrested. Inspector Rathva said that the teacher had vanished and they were looking for him.
