A nursing college student, who was admitted to SMIMER hospital on Friday morning with complaints of fever and vomiting, died during treatment. Her family members accused the college authorities of being negligent and not providing timely treatment to the girl.

According to information, 19-year-old Hemlata Solanki, a resident of Haran village in Navsari district and a 2nd year student at Jaideep Memorial Nursing Training School, was admitted to SMIMER on Friday morning. Hemlata had fever and she had fainted after vomiting in the class.

The college authorities reportedly gave her some treatment before bringing her to SMIMER. But the girl died after a short treatment at the hospital. Later, the college authorities, who initially did not bother to inform Hemlata's family when she fainted, informed them only when she died.

Shocked by the death, Hemlata's family members alleged that college authorities were negligent in arranging timely treatment for the girl. They said Hemalata had returned to college two days back after spending the Diwali vacation at her village and she was fine.

"She was completely healthy at that time and we ourselves dropped her at the college. Hemalata never suffered from any disease nor she complained about any health problem. We still don't understand the reason of her death. College authorities on the other hand are mum over the issue," said Thakorbhai Solanki, Hemlata's father.

He continued: "The college authorities first gave some wrong treatment to Hemlata and when her condition worsened, they brought her to SMIMER. We have decided to lodge a police complaint."  A post mortem of Hemlata's body was later conducted at SMIMER. The police were investigating the case.
