Stitching centre for poor launched in Ahmedabad

With a view to provide professional training to underprivileged youth, Vocational and Educational Development Institute Calorx (VEDIC) launched ‘MJ Pherwani Garment Training Centre’ on Thursday.

Launched at Delhi Public School (east), the centre will help the youth of nearby villages and will provide training to 30 youngsters a month and teach a specially designed ‘stitching machine operator’ course.

The centre has been named after the legendary figure of the capital and financial markets, MJ Pherwani. The head of the project, Ashutosh Dave said, “We are training the youth in various sections like machine control, paper exercise, fabric exercise, live training programme with presentation. “

VEDIC was established in 2010 to train poor children, mainly from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.  The authorities and three companies signed an MoU on Thursday to handle the issue of unemployment after they complete their training in stitching.

The centre was inaugurated by Chandan Chatterjee, Gujarat government and Sunil Jhaveri.
