To celebrate the ninth annual state-wide Kanya Kelavni and Shala Praveshotsav, a 3-day long school enrollment campaign will begin on Thursday and continue till June 18. The campaign will see participation from chief minister Narendra Modi and other state government top officials.
All officers from All India Services will take part in the state-wide campaign to spread awareness on girls' education and enrollment drive in primary schools.
A team of 22,110 will consist of entire council of ministers and parliamentary secretaries, chief secretary and all IAS officers, senior officers drawn from respective districts, and people's representatives among others. The Team will be divided into smaller groups and each group will cover five villages every day.
It will be held in two phases. In phase-I the team will cover 32,772 government-run primary schools and 44,000 balwadis (crèches) in 18,000-odd villages in Gujarat from June 16 to 18. Modi will be present in Sihore taluka (Bhavnagar), Valia taluka (Bharuch), and Satlasna taluka (Mehsana) on June 16, June 17, and June 18 respectively.In phase-II the team will cover primary schools in the urban areas under eight municipal corporations and 159 municipalities from June 23 to 25.
A comparative study of Census 2001 and 2011 shows a 13% rise in girls' literacy rate and 29.77% decrease in school dropout ratio. The dropout rate in primary schools has also now come down to 2%.
A special fund called chief minister's Kanya Kelavani Nidhi has been devised wherein gifts received by chief minister are first sold and the amount is deposited into the fund. Apart from that the donations of various donors and organizations are also deposited in the fund.
