CPI(M)'s growth in north India has stagnated though it has made improvement in some states like Rajasthan, Bihar and Jharkhand, a report prepared by party Polit Bureau has said.

Sources today said the mid-term review placed by Polit Bureau before the ongoing meeting of the central committee has held that the party has improved its position in some places in Rajasthan.

The report also opined that the state committees of Bihar and Jharkhand have become more "active", they said.

However, sources said, the report was critical about the role of Polit Bureau and central committee for not taking adequate steps for the growth of the party in the Hindi belt.

The report noted that in many places, the party was not growing and there is a "stagnation in the Hindi belt", sources said. It was also critical about the party not organising more peasant struggles.

The mid-term review was placed before the central committee yesterday and various members have participated in the discussions. The state units had earlier submitted their reports to the Polit Bureau.

The report also criticised the state party units for not properly using its mass organisations for staging struggles on people's issues, sources said.

Many struggles were organised under the banner of party but there were no mention of mass organisations, sources said quoting the report.
