Indian army officers and soldiers along with their families joined their Chinese counterparts in the celebration of China's 62nd National Day on the Chinese side across the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

On the invitation of the Chinese border troops opposite the Kameng Sector in Arunachal Pradesh, the Indian army men and their families joined the special celebrations near Bum La in Tawang district on Saturday, defence sources said today.

The celebrations commenced with the Chinese delegation leader welcoming the Indian delegation leader Brig Sudhakar Jee at the Heap of Stones in Bum La.  This was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony by the Chinese.

The delegations interacted with an aim of furthering the growing trust and confidence between the two nations reaffirming their resolve to strengthen their friendship and to maintain peace and tranquility along the border, the sources said.

The Chinese also hosted a cultural show depicting the rich cultural heritage of their country.

The regular border personnel meetings (BPMs) between the the armies of India and China at Bum La play a pivotal role in enhancing the bonhomie between the two countries along the Sino-Indian border, they said.

The BPM is a vital platform for resolving local issues with a view to enhancing peace and tranquility in the sector, they added.

These interactions between the Indian and Chinese Armies had initially started with a flag meeting and later transformed into a regular event of BPM from May 30, 1999.

The last BPM at the Maitrey Sthal on August 15 was hosted by the Indian army contributing significantly to further cementing the mutual trust, confidence and friendship between the two countries, the sources said.

The Chinese have been reciprocating by inviting the Indians every year on their National Day.
