South Gujarat areas receive good rains

Rains lashed Surat and south Gujarat on Wednesday, and a majority of areas recorded good showers. However, despite the constant pouring, only one inch rain was recorded in Surat.

Except a few instances of water logging on roads, no untoward incident was reported from the city. Valsad, Navsari and Dangs also recorded good rains during the day.

It started raining early in the morning on Wednesday, and continued till late in the evening. While the intensity of the rain was low in the early hours, it gained momentum late in the afternoon. Waterlogging occurred in low-lying areas, creating obstacles for vehicular movement. However, despite all the showers, only 27 mm rain was recorded in the city.

Apart from Surat, there were good rains in the Tapi catchment area as well. Due to continuous outflow from the Hathnoor dam, the water level in the Ukai dam touched 337.37 feet on Wednesday. At 6.00 in the evening, inflow in the dam was recorded at 43,208 cusecs, while an almost-similar amount of water was discharged from the dam.

The Met department has predicted medium to heavy rains in the region over the next 48 hours. The highest rains were recorded in Kamrej which received 5 inches of rain, while the lowest was at Umarpada, with 5 mm.

Valsad, Navsari and Dangs districts too recorded significant rains. Valsad taluka recorded 1 inch, Umargam 2 inch, Pardi and Dharampur 1.5 inch and Kaprada 3 inch of rain during the day. In Navsari district, Jalalpore taluka recorded the maximum of 5 inch, while the lowest was at Vansda with 1 inch, in the last 24 hours. Navsari taluka recorded 4 inch, with Chikli and Gandevi receiving 3 inch each.

Ahwa in Dangs also recorded 4 inch rain on Wednesday, with showers all the day. The Met department has predicted normal to medium rains for all three districts over the next 48 hours.
