AMC has proposed a flyover across SP Ring Road in Bopal; it will cost Rs75 crore.
Crossing the Sardar Patel Ring Road near Bopal post sunset may usually give you the jitters as you attempt to escape the blinding headlights flashed by speeding trucks and cars.
Well that could be a thing of the past. For, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is coming to your rescue with a flyover on the SP Ring Road at Bopal.
The Rs75 crore flyover will also have a parking facility.
The parking area will be built under the flyover so that commuters from Bopal can park their vehicle and use the BRTS once the bus service becomes operational from the area.
In the budget for financial year 2011-12, AMC commissioner IP Gautam has placed a proposal for the flyover. The flyover will be built under the chief minister's golden jubilee urban development scheme 2011.
The civic body is exploring various designs for the proposed flyover. "We have assigned the task of preparing a design for the flyover," said senior official of the AMC. He said that it could be a 'S' shape flyover connecting two roads.
"This flyover will also bring down accident on the various crossroads that connect the city and Bopal. We have received many complaints about accidents in the area and the flyover will provide a solution to the same. Moreover, Bopal is an optional road for entry to Ahmedabad from Viramgam. So, in the future the area may see more traffic thus adding to the chaos," he said.
AMC has already started work on the BRTS route from Shivranjani to SP Ring Road (near Bopal). The traffic in the area is expected to rise in the future adding to the congestion.
An official said that at present Bopal does not fall within the city limits and so they cannot take BRTS to the residential areas of this suburb. "However, one cannot rule out the possibility of extending the service to this densely populated neighborhood," he added.
