Expressing her dissatisfaction over the progress of the ongoing development works in her constituency here, United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi today warned that no laxity would be tolerated in implementing the Centre-sponsored schemes.

The Congress chief, who attended three-hour long meeting of the district monitoring and vigilance committee here, took stock of the ongoing development projects in the district.

Congress MLA Sataon Shiv Ganesh Lodhi, who was present at the meeting, said Gandhi reviewed the progress of the ongoing works in her constituency and took feedback from various members of the committee.

She asked the district administration to get welfare and construction works completed as per the norms and warned that no laxity either in the progress or quality would be tolerated, Lodhi said.

Gandhi asked the district magistrate to rectify the shortcomings soon and present its details in the next meeting of the committee, Lodhi said.

Gandhi, who had been getting inputs of shortcomings in the development works, categorically told the officials that stern action would be taken in case any shortcoming was found in the centrally sponsored schemes being run in villages, Lodhi said.

Earlier, Gandhi met party workers, leaders and MLAs at the NTPC guest house here and heard the grievances of her partymen, and assured them of quick redressal.

Referring to the various complaints received by her from the locals with regard to mid-day meal, Gandhi asked the officials not only to improve the quality but also to ensure that all the eligible children were covered under it.

Gandhi, who came here yesterday to visit various villages of her constituency, questioned the officials on complaints of delay in the payments under the NREGS, and asked as to why certain villages are not being taken up, while in others works were stopped midway, Lodhi said.

Briefing about the details of the meeting, district magistrate Charanjit Singh Buxi said a decision has been taken to set up an inquiry committee to look into the shortcomings under the various schemes, as also the bad shape of roads.

"Gandhi has also asked for fixing responsibility on contractors wherever the construction works are not up to the mark," the DM said adding the Congress MP, who is also the chairperson of the committee, has instructed for looking into all the complaints.

Gandhi has also asked for explaining the NREGS beneficiaries the details of payments besides getting hoardings made mentioning the rates under the scheme and details of the BPL scheme.
