A musical soiree was held as a solidarity benefit concert here in aid of the Japan earthquake and tsunami victims today.

Billed as 'Nagaland Contributes' the concert was organised by Music Task Force (MTF) under the Nagaland department of youth resources and sports.

Besides the noted Christian choirs of the town, musical bands such as Divine Connection (MTV reality show winner 2010), OFF, XTC, Dementia, De Band, Ebenezer Band and soloists performed in the event where entry was free and music lovers contributed voluntarily to the cause.

Project director of MTF, Gugs Chishi said the money collected from the concert would be sent to the Japanese embassy in New Delhi.

Although the young generation of Nagas does not have much connection with Japan, the Japanese invasion of Kohima during World War-II is remembered by village elders here.

Many anecdotes about how Naga villagers had helped the Japanese army assisted by Azad Hind Fauj of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in 1944 are still popular.
