Ajay Parmar and Santram Sharma, two police constables
arrested in connection with the Sohrabuddin Shsikh fake encounter case, on Friday filed a petition in the special CBI court and sought their discharge in the case.

The cops have sought their discharge on the basis of the remarks made about them in the chargesheet filed by the CBI in the case.

The court, after hearing their petition, issued a notice to the CBI
and posted the case for further hearing on August 25.

The CBI in its chargesheet has stated that both Parmar and Sharma were subordinate officers who had acted on the instructions of IPS officers DG Vanzara and Rajkumar Pandian.

"They do not have any active role in the case and there is no meeting of mind with the main conspirators; hence their name is removed from the list of the accused," the chargesheet says.

In their joint petition, Parmar and Sharma have stated that they were in no way involved in the fake encounter and this is reflected in the chargesheet. They have further stated that as their names had been removed by the CBI from the list of the accused, they should be discharged in the case.

"We are lodged in jail for no reason. We have a family and elderly people to support. Ever since our arrest, our families have been going through a bad phase. Hence we should be released from jail and discharged in the case," their petition states.
