The situation is getting more tense with every passing day at the riverfront under the Vadaj Dhusheshwar bridge. Only one day after the clash between the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials and the evicted slum dwellers and the police had to use force again to control the violent mob, on Wednesday.

According to the police inspector of Madhavpura police station, 20 tear gas shells were fired at the angry mob to chase them away from the site.

“The mob targeted the police and AMC vehicles. To stop the angry slum dwellers we had to use force,” said NR

Vaghela, who was there at the site with 100 policemen.
In the morning AMC officials again went to clear the debris at the riverfront, and this angered the slum dwellers.

AMC had sought police protection and at 11am, the cops asked the affected families to gather near the bridge and start a dialogue between the two parties.

However, the adamant residents charged the officials with duping them and started raising slogans against them.

According to Kalyan Thakor, vice-president of the Sabarmati Jan Sangharsh Manch, the AMC officials are trying their best to evict the slum dwellers but without promising them alternate houses.

The dialogue went on till 1pm and nothing came out of it. Thus the officials called for bulldozers and cordoned off the area with the help of police personnel. And that is when the slum dwellers again turned violent and started pelting stones on the police and officials.

Deputy municipal commissioner Captain Dilip Mahajan and JCP  Satish Sharma tried to restore order, but in vain.
The angry crowd hurled stones at the police, vehicles and bulldozers.

As a result, two constables of Madhavpura police station got injured. Shravan and Rajesh who drove the bulldozer also got seriously injured. As a last resort, police fired tear gas to control the situation.
