The men were arrested five days after another associate of the elusive underworld element, M Chandu alias Drum Chandu, 30, was killed in an encounter with the police in Horamavu.
The central crime branch (CCB) arrested six associates of extortionist Ravi Poojary, police said on Friday.

Police said the arrested men were involved in criminal cases including extortion and murder. The accused persons have been identified as: Mohan 27, a resident of BDA Layout in Avalahalli; Shivakumar, 33, of 9th Block in Jayanagar; Ibrahim, 37, of Millers Road, Frazer Town; Mahesh, 29, a resident of 6th Stage, JP Nagar; Santosh 31, a native of Bantwal, Mangalore; and Udaykumar Hegde, 45, of Virupakshapura.
Police said all the accused had been working for Ravi Poojary and they had threatened some of the businessmen for money.
Investigators said the gang threatened the office of Shabnam Developers in Tilaknagar. They were also involved in the killing of two employees of the realty firm, and injuring another person.
All of them were absconding after availing bail, and court warrants were pending against them.
The gang had threatened another developer, Srinivas Reddy, in 2009. A case was filed by the Cubbon Park police.
Chandu, who was killed by the police on September 26, had fired six rounds at the office of Mantri Developers, a realty firm, on Vittal Mallya Road. The police intercepted him while fleeing. The man defied orders to surrender and fired at the police. Chandu was injured in the retaliatory fire, and died while being taken to a hospital. His accomplice, however, escaped under the cover of darkness.
“We are searching for the escaped man. We suspect that he may have fled to Mangalore or even abroad,” a senior police officer said.
