Six die in flash floods in Gujarat; Delhi receives showers

South west monsoon was vigorous in Kutch region of Gujarat where incessant rains claimed six lives while most parts of north India including the national capital experienced showers today.
 
Heavy rains lashed Kutch district since last evening as six members of a family, including four children, drowned in flood water in Bhachau town. The downpour resulted in dams being overflown, inundating low-lying areas.
 
Jamnagar district in Saurashtra region also received downpour that affected road traffic.
 
In the northern belt, national capital Delhi, which experienced overcast conditions for most part of the week, finally received showers, bringing the mercury down by several notches.
 
The maximum plunged to 29.2 deg C, five notches below normal, from 36.4 deg C yesterday while the minimum settled one degree below normal at 26.4 deg C. The city recorded 3 mm rainfall, but high humidity touching 97 per cent made people sweat.
 
Widespread rains lashed Rajasthan where Dabok was drenched by 53 mm rainfall while Ajmer, Kota and Barmer recorded 36.2 mm, 27.7 mm and 13 mm of rains respectively.
 
Punjab and Haryana too received showers that resulted in a sharp fall in temperatures across the region.
 
The maximum in Ambala stood at 31.4 deg C, two degrees below normal, while Hisar recorded a high of 29.8 deg C, six notches below normal, and Karnal 29.4 deg C, down by four notches. Patiala was the hottest in the region at 35.1 degrees.
