CPI(M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury, who is also in charge of the party’s external affairs wing, left for the US on Monday. The official purpose of the visit is to deliver a lecture on ‘Future of Communism in India’ at Columbia University.
Party sources said Yechury will highlight how the extreme-right and extreme-left forces in Bengal are making attempts to disrupt law and order, hampering development. A CPI(M) leader said: “After the LS poll debacle, the global community started believing in the so-called misrule by Left in Bengal. It is necessary to explain.”
