Khurshid on Tuesday sought to draw a line between public and private life, saying a sensible balance needed to be maintained.
Against the backdrop of BJP seeking a clarification from Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on the CD controversy, Law Minister Salman Khurshid on Tuesday sought to draw a line between public and private life, saying a "sensible balance" needed to be maintained.
"Has it something to do with parliamentary affairs or something which is in the realm of a citizen's private life. I think that we should not really intrude where we should not be intruding," he told reporters outside Parliament House.
"You cannot treat everything in the same manner... parliament must be concerned about procedure and issues and when it comes to private lives of people, I think it should be handled in a different manner," Khurshid told said.
In reply to a volley of questions on the CD controversy, Khurshid said where questions relate to public performance and public office, such questions can be raised.
"I think appropriate sensible balance between all these things have to be maintained by everybody, by us the public persons and by the media...we must be clear. We can't keep everything in the same manner," he said.
Seeking to oppose raising of the issue in Parliament, he said the legislature must be concerned about its processes and procedures and matters of public interests.
When asked why Congress raised the issue of MLAs allegedly watching objectionable content on their i-pad in Karnataka Assembly, he quipped when a person is in the legislature, it does not come into the realm of private life.
"I don't think there is private life when you are in Assembly doing something. I don't think that is private life," he said.
