SIMI a gift of Digvijay Singh to Madhya Pradesh: Umashankar Gupta

Madhya Pradesh home minister, Umashankar Gupta has alleged that the network of Student's Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) originated and spread in the state during the regime of the Digivijay Singh led-Congress government.

"SIMI is a gift of Digvijay Singh regime to Madhya Pradesh as it's network grew stronger in the state during that period," Gupta told reporters here last evening.

However, when the BJP came to power in the state, the government had taken effective steps to destroy its network, he said and added that as a result of it, "the outlawed terror outfit has virtually been wiped out of the state."

"It was BJP's major achievement in the last six years in the state," Gupta, who was here to inaugurate a Shopping Complex built by the Mandsaur Municipality, said.

The home minister alleged that the Centre was not helping Madhya Pradesh to tackle the Naxal problems in three Naxal-affected districts -- Dindori, Balaghat and Mandla -- in the state.
       
On the issue of Kanjars, who enter Mandsaur town from neighbouring Rajasthan for thefts and other criminal activities, he said that "Madhya Pradesh government would soon set up a task force to tackle this problem and talks were on with Rajasthan government for this purpose."
