The family members of IT student Shobhit Modi, stabbed to death by unidentified assailants earlier this year near his home, today pleaded to the Delhi High Court to transfer the probe into the murder case to CBI.

The counsel for the slain youth's family sought transfer of the case to CBI accusing the city police of ignoring vital leads in the case, including the contents of SMS exchanged between the victim and his girl friend. Shobit's counsel argued before Justice Mukta Gupta that the victim's family members had supplied the mobile phone, laptop to the police for investigation but it has failed to find any clue against the culprit as of today. "Police have failed to analyse the contents of the SMS, Shobit's interaction with his friend about his affair with the girl," the counsel submitted adding there was no motive of robbery behind the murder as the victim's belongings were intact.

The lawyer submitted his client was threatened by the father and brother of his girl friend in his college a few months before the incident as they were against their relationship. "Our request to conduct polygraphy test on suspects was declined by the Investigating Officer on the ground that the evidence is not admissible under the law, which was totally unfair on the part of police," the lawyer argued.

Shobhit, a student of Manav Rachna University, Faridabad, was fatally stabbed by unidentified persons near his Vasant Kunj residence on May 5 this year. On the last date of hearing, the victim's father Suraj Modi had told the court that police claimed it has questioned several people associated with his son but they have not examined the girl's family properly. "Police had not probed the case properly despite their having named the girl's father in their complaint." the father said.

In its reply to the high court's notice, police had said they have examined several people, including the kin of Shobhit's girlfriend. Police filed a status report to the court, claiming that 1,000 contacts of Modi had been examined.
