Shimla bandh to protest cow slaughter

The famous Mall road of Shimla and other markets in its vicinity wore a deserted look with the shutting of shops due to half-day bandh today, called to protest cow slaughter in Nerwa block of the district.
       
All shops were closed on the famous Mall road and nearby market of Lower Bazar and Lakkar bazar till 2 pm due to half-day Shimla bandh called by a social-religious group 'Dharma Raksha Manch' with support of BJP and VHP to protest the killing of a cow in Nerwa block of Shimla district on Thursday.
       
Six people have been arrested by the police in connection with the cow slaughter whose leg was found on Thursday night from near a religious place.
       
Enraged over the incident, an irate mob indulged in violence at Nerwa, about 150 km from here, yesterday and partially burnt two places of worship.
      
The bandh was supported besides by ruling BJP by a large number of Hindu social-cultural groups and traders body, convener of 'Dharam Raksha Manch' Balram Sharma told PTI.
      
Meanwhile, Shimla superintendent of police RM Sharma, who is camping at Nerwa since yesterday, told PTI situation was normal there. But, police continued to patrol the streets of Nerwa as precautionary measure, he added.
